Mertens/Zhang enter the Berlin grass-court doubles matchup as clear favorites, buoyed by their January 2026 Australian Open title—their first Grand Slam together—which returned Elise Mertens to the top of the doubles rankings. The Belgian-Chinese pair brings extensive experience, multiple major titles between them, and proven adaptability across surfaces, giving them a significant edge in consistency and tactical execution on the faster grass. Ulrikke Eikeri and Quinn Gleason have shown recent form, advancing with a straight-sets win in the Berlin round of 16, but their overall ranking and head-to-head pedigree against top teams remain lower. Trader consensus reflects these gaps in elite-level results and recent momentum, while noting that grass-court variables like serve effectiveness and net play could influence shorter matches.
