Göttingen's open-seat Oberbürgermeister election on 13 September features four main candidates—Onyeka Oshionwu (Greens, backed by Volt), Florian Dinger (SPD), Ehsan Kangarani (CDU, backed by FDP), and Thomas Goes (Left)—after incumbent Petra Broistedt declined to run again. With voting just days away and no candidate assured of an outright majority, the direct-election rules trigger a 27 September runoff if needed, keeping probabilities tightly clustered as traders weigh party mobilization, local turnout among younger and university voters, and cross-endorsements. Oshionwu holds a modest edge in market pricing, consistent with recent Green momentum in the city, while the others trail amid fragmented support.
