OpenAI’s rapid iteration through the GPT-5 series—most recently with the July 9, 2026 public release of GPT-5.6 Sol as the current frontier model—has shaped trader expectations around GPT-6 timing. Frequent point releases (GPT-5.5 in April, incremental updates through mid-2026) and a shift away from big generational leaps suggest the company prioritizes continuous capability gains over a single dramatic GPT-6 launch. Leaks referencing a possible August 2026 debut for GPT-5.7 or an early GPT-6 remain unconfirmed speculation, while OpenAI leadership has avoided firm long-term dates. Competitive pressure from other labs and infrastructure scaling at facilities like Stargate continue to influence development cadence, with resolution hinging on whether OpenAI treats the next major model as GPT-6 or another 5.x variant.

For this market to resolve to "Yes," GPT-6 must be launched and publicly accessible, including via open beta or open rolling waitlist signups. A closed beta or any form of private access will not suffice. The release must be clearly defined and publicly announced by OpenAI as being accessible to the general public.
GPT-6 refers to a product explicitly named GPT-6 (e.g. ChatGPT-6o would count), or one that is recognized as a successor to GPT-5, similar to the progression from GPT-3 to GPT-4. Products labeled as GPT-5.5 or similar will not count for this market's resolution.
The primary resolution source for this market will be official information from OpenAI, with additional verification from a consensus of credible reporting.
