Barcelona and Real Madrid remain the only realistic candidates for La Liga’s top two places in 2026-27, reflecting their unmatched squad depth, financial resources, and historical dominance. Barcelona enter as slight favorites after back-to-back titles, including an eight-point margin over Real Madrid last season, bolstered by additions such as Rodri, Anthony Gordon, and Karim Adeyemi under Hansi Flick. Real Madrid have countered with a major rebuild under returning manager José Mourinho, featuring high-profile signings including Yan Diomande, Bernardo Silva, Marc Cucurella, and Ibrahima Konaté to address defensive and midfield weaknesses. Atlético Madrid sit a distant third in most projections, while other sides lack the consistency or quality to sustain a challenge for the top two. Early-season results have reinforced the expected hierarchy, with both clubs posting strong starts.
