Mojtaba Khamenei’s March 2026 election by Iran’s Assembly of Experts as Supreme Leader following his father’s February assassination in U.S.-Israeli strikes has placed him at the center of regime continuity in Tehran. His longstanding ties to the IRGC and security forces, combined with the constitutional requirement to lead from within Iran during active regional tensions, have shaped trader views on any near-term departure. No official announcements or credible reporting indicate plans for travel or exile, while the regime’s emphasis on internal cohesion amid sanctions and military pressures reinforces his domestic positioning. Any shift would likely require major escalations, leadership challenges, or diplomatic developments within the resolution window.
