Romania’s prolonged parliamentary deadlock, triggered by the May 2026 no-confidence vote that ousted Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, continues to shape trader views on appointment timing. President Nicușor Dan’s latest nominee, centre-right MEP Siegfried Mureșan, received backing from PNL, USR, and UDMR parties after earlier candidates Eugen Tomac and Adrian Veștea failed; Mureșan now has a 10-day window to assemble a cabinet and secure a confidence vote. Social Democrats and the far-right AUR bloc have withheld support, citing coalition disagreements, while economic pressures from Romania’s large EU budget deficit add urgency. The constitutional clock allows the president one further nomination before potential dissolution and snap elections, scheduled no earlier than 2028. These factors keep the implied probability of resolution by year-end elevated among traders.
