Arthur Gea, ranked No. 137 and seeded No. 2, holds a clear ranking edge over wild card Sergi Perez Contri (No. 547) in this Madrid Challenger first-round clay-court clash, reflecting trader consensus on Gea's recent indoor success in Montpellier despite multiple opponent retirements. However, Gea's injury retirement against Stefano Travaglia in last week's Zadar Challenger raises fitness concerns, especially after a medical timeout during the match. Perez Contri counters with strong recent clay form, including straight-set qualifier wins over Sean Cuenin and Carles Cordoba in the Alicante Challenger days ago, bolstered by home-crowd support and grinding baseline play suited to the surface. No head-to-head history exists, leaving room for an upset on the outdoor clay.
