In the Madrid Challenger's opening round on outdoor red clay, Spaniard Alex Martinez enters with momentum from a 6-2 clay record this season, capped by a runner-up finish at the Menorca Challenger where he fell 6-1, 6-4 to Raul Brancaccio on April 5. French veteran Calvin Hemery, a lucky loser (LL) after qualifying triumphs over Daniel Lara Salmeron and Andrej Nedic, counters with a 3-3 clay mark amid a 7-8 overall start, his latest clay exit a quarterfinal loss to Arthur Gea. No head-to-head exists between the similarly ranked pair (Martinez 305, Hemery 354), but Martinez's home-soil edge and fresher surface form shape trader consensus, with cool 13°C conditions potentially favoring endurance.
