Patrick Mahomes remains the clear frontrunner to start at quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 1 of the 2026 season after completing a rapid recovery from the ACL and LCL tears that ended his 2025 campaign. He received full medical clearance ahead of training camp, participated fully in first-team reps throughout the summer, and has continued practicing with starters in the lead-up to the Sept. 14 opener against the Broncos. The Chiefs’ decision to keep Justin Fields as the primary backup following his mid-offseason acquisition, while releasing Chris Oladokun via injury settlement and retaining rookie Garrett Nussmeier, has further solidified the depth chart behind the two-time MVP. With no reported setbacks and Mahomes on pace for a full workload, trader consensus heavily favors his availability and status as the unquestioned Week 1 starter.

If the Chiefs do not name a single player as the starting quarterback, the market will resolve based on the player who takes the most snaps at quarterback during their first offensive drive of the game. If multiple players take the same number of snaps on the Chiefs’ first offensive drive, the market will resolve to the player who took the first snap at quarterback.
This market may not resolve before the start of the Chiefs’ Week 1 regular season game.
The resolution sources for this market will be official information from the NFL (NFL.com); however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
