The Las Vegas Raiders' decision to name veteran Kirk Cousins their Week 1 starter stems from his established experience, consistent preseason play, and rapport with first-year head coach Klint Kubiak, who prioritized a steady hand over immediate insertion of rookie first-overall pick Fernando Mendoza. Cousins completed 13 of 17 passes for a touchdown in limited exhibition work, outperforming Mendoza's 25-of-45 line that included two interceptions and sacks amid typical rookie adjustment issues. Aidan O'Connell remains the clear third option behind the pair. This trader consensus reflects official depth-chart positioning and post-preseason reports. Scenarios that could still shift the outcome include an early-season injury to Cousins or a sharp downturn in team performance that accelerates Mendoza's timeline.

In the event two listed quarterbacks take the field on the first offensive play of the Las Vegas Raiders’ Week 1 game, this market will resolve in favor of the player directly receiving the snap. If neither listed quarterback directly receives the snap, this market will resolve in favor of the player whose listed last name comes first alphabetically.
If Week 1 of the 2026-27 NFL regular season is cancelled, postponed after September 30, 2026, 11:59 PM ET, or no official starter has taken the field within that timeframe, this market will resolve to “Other”.
The resolution source for this market will be official information from the NFL and/or the Las Vegas Raiders; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
