Strong early presales for Dune: Part Three, including a franchise-record $10 million first-day domestic haul reported in mid-August, combined with Avengers: Doomsday’s robust MCU tracking as a Phase Six tentpole, have driven trader consensus toward an 86% implied probability that the pair’s combined domestic opening weekend will surpass Barbenheimer’s $244.5 million benchmark. Recent August trailer drops and ticket sales launches for both December 18 releases have sustained momentum without major negative shifts, while Dune’s multi-week IMAX exclusivity provides a key premium-format edge. Overlapping fanbases create some cannibalization risk unlike Barbenheimer’s contrasting demographics, yet the sheer scale of two major franchises on the same date underpins the current market positioning ahead of final tracking updates.
