Alex de Minaur enters as the clear trader favorite against qualifier Hamad Medjedovic in the Barcelona Open round of 16, buoyed by his No. 7 ranking and straight-sets 7-6(7), 6-4 win over Sebastian Ofner yesterday on the slow clay courts, where he won 86% of first-serve points and converted his sole break chance. De Minaur leads their head-to-head 1-0, prevailing 6-7(5), 6-2, 6-2, 6-1 at the Australian Open earlier this year, showcasing resilience after a shaky start. While Medjedovic boasts an 8-1 clay record in 2026—fueled by qualifying wins over Vilius Gaubas, Quentin Halys, and a 7-5, 6-4 R32 upset of Marco Trungelliti—his No. 88 ranking and reliance on serving face challenges against de Minaur's elite returning and baseline grinding on this surface, where the Australian went 3-1 YTD and reached the quarters last year. Mild weather favors a baseline battle.
