Gian van Veen enters as the clear favorite in this New Zealand Darts Masters quarter-final due to his world number two ranking, superior recent form, and strong head-to-head record in World Series events. The Dutchman posted a dominant 6-3 win over Clayton in the US Darts Masters in June while maintaining averages above 97 and converting high checkouts consistently. Although the Welsh veteran showed flashes in the 2026 Premier League, including earlier victories, his results have been more variable since. Van Veen’s experience reaching the PDC World Championship final earlier in the year and his current momentum as top seed underpin the 69% implied probability, though Clayton’s proven match-play nous keeps an upset viable in best-of-11 legs.
