Chicago Cubs enter the interleague series at Kauffman Stadium with strong momentum, holding a 67-49 record and positioning near the top of the NL wild card race after a 32-15 stretch since mid-June. They arrive on a four-game win streak and recently acquired starter Kevin Gausman, who delivered seven sharp innings in his debut during a 6-4 victory on August 7. The Royals sit at 48-68, well out of AL Central contention, though they have shown power with home runs in 14 of 18 games since the All-Star break. Key factors include Cubs' road form and pitching depth against Kansas City's inconsistent offense and bullpen, with the remaining games on August 8-9 offering further opportunities for lineup adjustments and bullpen management.
