Revisions to previously published data points made before data has been published for the listed date will be considered; however, they will not disqualify a previously published data point from qualifying. This has triggered repeated attacks on vessels, including a fatal August 11-12 strike on the cargo ship Tihamah that killed six, sharp drops in tanker and commodity transits (often 40-50% below prior averages), rerouting via Suez or the Cape, and selective clearances negotiated by Chinese operators. Daily crossings have stabilized around 30-40 vessels rather than falling to the ≤10 threshold defining effective closure on IMF PortWatch data, reflecting partial deterrence, insurance shifts, and avoidance of Saudi ports. Trader sentiment weighs risks of further escalation against diplomatic channels, naval protections, and Saudi export adaptations, with resolution hinging on whether attacks intensify or de-escalate before year-end.
