Gubernatorial elections are currently scheduled to be held in Borno State, Nigeria, on February 6, 2027. If the election is officially rescheduled, this market will resolve based on the election held to choose the Governor for the term beginning in 2027. This market will resolve according to the listed candidate who wins the 2027 Borno State gubernatorial election. Any interim, acting, or caretaker Governor will not qualify. If the results are not known definitively by October 31, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to "Other". To be elected Governor, a candidate must satisfy the requirements under Nigerian law, including receiving the highest number of votes cast and the constitutionally required geographic distribution of votes. If no candidate wins the election outright, this market will remain open to account for any further election or runoff, provided this occurs before the resolution deadline. If no candidate has been officially elected by the resolution deadline, this market will resolve to "Other". This market will resolve based on the results of this election, as indicated by a consensus of credible reporting. If there is ambiguity, this market will resolve solely based on official results published by Nigeria's Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and Nigerian government sources.**Mustapha Gubio holds an 80% implied probability as the leading outcome because he secured the All Progressives Congress (APC) nomination through a consensus process in May 2026, with strong backing from outgoing Governor Babagana Umara Zulum.** On August 20, 2026, Zulum formally presented Gubio to Vice President Kashim Shettima as the APC’s unified choice for the 2027 Borno governorship election, following stakeholder consultations and affirmation by party structures. This reflects the ruling APC’s organizational strength in the state, its alignment with federal leadership under President Bola Tinubu, and Gubio’s pledge to continue Zulum’s priorities on security, reconstruction, education, agriculture, and resettlement of displaced persons. **Babagana Buhari’s 17.5% share stems from his recent win of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ticket on August 20, 2026, after a direct primary across the state’s 27 local government areas.** Buhari, a newer entrant to Borno politics, faces an opposition party with limited local infrastructure compared with the APC’s entrenched position. The numerous other named candidates and “Other” at 50% or lower reflect the absence of viable alternative nominees from major parties or broad-based support, as internal APC contests resolved early through withdrawals and consensus. **The election is scheduled for early 2027 under Nigeria’s Electoral Act timetable, with trader pricing shaped by the APC’s early unification and the structural challenges facing fragmented opposition efforts.**
