The Chicago Cubs enter the upcoming three-game series at PNC Park holding a 29-21 record and second place in the NL Central, while the Pittsburgh Pirates sit at 26-24 and fourth in the division. The Cubs have dropped their last five contests, contrasting the Pirates' recent two-game win streak that includes a shutout performance. Key roster developments include the Cubs placing infielder Matt Shaw on the injured list with back tightness and promoting Pedro Ramirez, alongside ongoing trade deadline speculation around Shaw. Pittsburgh continues to manage multiple pitching injuries, including Jared Jones on the 60-day IL. Home-field advantage at PNC Park, combined with both clubs' middling recent form and NL Central positioning, shapes the matchup dynamics heading into the late-May series.
