The Washington Nationals hold a clear edge in this interleague series at Nationals Park, entering with a 37-35 record and third-place standing in the NL East compared to the Royals’ 29-43 mark and last-place position in the AL Central. Kansas City’s pitching staff has been decimated by injuries, with starters Seth Lugo and Anthony Simonelli on the IL alongside multiple relievers, forcing reliance on options like Michael Wacha amid a stretch of inconsistent results. The Nationals’ stronger recent form, including wins in their prior series, and home advantage further tilt the matchup. Roster health for both clubs and any late scratches remain key variables that could influence bullpen usage and lineup construction over the next few days.
