McCartney Kessler, the defending 2025 champion ranked No. 39, faces qualifier Katie Volynets (No. 101) in the Nottingham Open round of 32 on grass. Kessler enters with strong recent grass-court form after claiming multiple titles, though she fell in the London quarterfinals, while Volynets advanced through qualifying with wins over Panna Udvardy and Kimberly Birrell. The surface rewards big serves and aggressive baseline play, areas where Kessler’s experience provides an edge over the lower-ranked American. Trader consensus reflects a near-even matchup at roughly 53% implied probability for Kessler, driven by her ranking, home-soil familiarity at the event, and Volynets’ solid recent results on the surface. No major injuries have been reported for either player ahead of the June 16 clash.
