Elon Musk's March 10 announcement of early public access for X Money—a peer-to-peer payments system with direct deposits, Visa debit cards, and cashback rewards—has anchored trader sentiment around an April rollout, aligning with X's push toward an everything-app model competing against Venmo and PayPal. Recent developments include the April 15 launch of smart cashtags for stocks and crypto in the US and Canada, signaling fintech integration, alongside a March beta via William Shatner's charity drive. Heightened regulatory scrutiny, including a Senate Banking Committee letter on April 14 and Sen. Elizabeth Warren's demands for consumer protections, introduces delay risks amid money transmitter license hurdles. Traders eye late-April announcements for resolution clarity.
