The Cubs (34-34) enter this Coors Field series with a stronger overall roster and NL Central standing than the Rockies (26-42), the worst record in MLB, but face a depleted rotation after placing Jameson Taillon on the 15-day IL with a hamstring strain and dealing with ongoing issues for Matthew Boyd and others. Chicago's offense has gone cold in recent games, posting low batting averages and getting outscored in the last 10 outings. The Rockies, despite their struggles, have won the first two games of the series behind home-run production and are slightly more competitive at altitude, where they have historically kept contests close. Multiple Rockies outfielders and pitchers also remain sidelined, limiting lineup depth for both clubs in a hitter-friendly environment that often inflates scoring.
