The Kansas City Royals enter this series at Great American Ball Park with a 23-38 record, last in the AL Central and mired in an eight-game road skid before snapping a losing streak with a 9-2 win on June 1. The Cincinnati Reds, at 31-29 and hovering near .500 in the NL Central, responded with a 4-3 extra-innings victory on a Blake Dunn walk-off single, though they remain without star shortstop Elly De La Cruz, sidelined by a hamstring strain. Ace Chase Burns anchors the Reds' staff with a 7-1 mark and 1.96 ERA, while the Royals lean on Stephen Kolek amid multiple injuries to their rotation and bullpen. Home-field advantage and the Reds' recent walk-off momentum shape the matchup, with both clubs dealing with offensive inconsistencies and bullpen vulnerabilities that could influence late-game outcomes.
