Tampa Bay Rays lead the AL East at 28-13, showcasing elite form with 16 wins in 18 games, capped by a 2-1 series win over the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre (8-5 on May 11, 7-6 in 10 innings on May 12, 3-5 loss on May 13). Rays hold a commanding 14-6 head-to-head edge in the last 20 meetings, bolstered by pitching depth despite Steven Matz's recent 15-day IL stint for elbow inflammation. Blue Jays languish at 18-24, over 10 games back, hampered by key absences: José Berríos (elbow stress fracture), Max Scherzer (forearm until late May), and Addison Barger (elbow). Trader consensus reflects Rays' momentum versus Jays' bullpen and rotation woes.
