Patrick Mahomes leads the Chiefs’ Week 1 starting quarterback market at 61.5% implied probability because he has cleared every milestone in his recovery from last December’s knee surgery, participating fully in training camp and taking all scheduled first-team reps without setbacks. Recent reports confirm he remains on track for the September 14 opener against the Broncos, with coaches noting his efficient camp performance and planned absence from preseason games to manage workload. Justin Fields, acquired via trade to serve as insurance, sits at just 0.3% as the likely backup, while Chris Oladokun’s recent waiver with an injury designation and placement on injured reserve removes him from active-roster contention. Gardner Minshew and Joe Flacco register minimal odds absent any roster connection. The market reflects the wisdom of crowds pricing in Mahomes’ expected availability while acknowledging the inherent uncertainty of any quarterback returning from a major knee injury.

If the Chiefs do not name a single player as the starting quarterback, the market will resolve based on the player who takes the most snaps at quarterback during their first offensive drive of the game. If multiple players take the same number of snaps on the Chiefs’ first offensive drive, the market will resolve to the player who took the first snap at quarterback.
This market may not resolve before the start of the Chiefs’ Week 1 regular season game.
The resolution sources for this market will be official information from the NFL (NFL.com); however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
