Persistent northeast winds off Lake Michigan, reinforced by a recent cool front and widespread weekend rainfall, are suppressing daytime heating and positioning Chicago's September 21 high firmly in the low-to-mid 60s. National Weather Service guidance and ensemble forecasts show broad agreement on a maximum near 63–65°F under cloudy skies and continued onshore flow, well below the late-September climatological average of about 74°F. Limited solar insolation from persistent cloud cover and the moderating influence of the lake further reduce the likelihood of exceeding 67°F or dropping below 62°F. With resolution occurring within hours, the market-implied distribution closely tracks this forecast consensus, reflecting traders' assessment of minimal upside risk absent an unexpected shift in steering patterns or model trends.
