Ed Ruscha’s 1982 lithograph “Cities Across the Globe,” from the World Series/Global Edition, heads to Sotheby’s Contemporary Curated auction on October 7, 2026, with markets centered on whether the hammer price clears $600k–$1.1M thresholds. Trader sentiment draws from the artist’s resilient secondary market, where 1980s works on paper and prints have posted 78–83% sell-through rates and frequently surpass estimates, supported by the 2024 record of $68.3 million for a major 1960s painting and strong 2025–2026 results such as a comparable 1982 work realizing $1.819 million. Recent auction data shows continued outperformance for similar Ruscha sheets, with limited supply of high-quality examples from this period sustaining demand ahead of the sale. No major negative catalysts have emerged, though final pricing remains subject to live bidding dynamics and any last-minute condition or provenance details.
