BJP's landslide victory in the April 2026 West Bengal assembly elections, securing 208 seats and ending AITC's long dominance, has driven overwhelming trader consensus for a BJP win in the upcoming Kolkata Municipal Corporation election. The assembly results showed BJP leading in a majority of the city's wards, prompting the resignation of the AITC mayor, dissolution of the civic board, and appointment of an administrator. With polls slated for late 2026 after ward delimitation expands the body to 209 seats, BJP's state government control and intensive local campaigning reinforce the frontrunner position. Late shifts in turnout, opposition alliances, or delimitation effects could still narrow the margin.
