India's July 2026 CPI print of 4.45% year-over-year, following June's 4.38% breach of the RBI's 4% target, anchors trader pricing with 79.5% implied probability on an annual average of 4.50% or higher. Food inflation at 5.52% and transport costs tied to Middle East energy volatility have driven the recent acceleration, reinforced by unfavorable base effects and monsoon risks. RBI projections for FY2026-27 averaging near 5%, alongside economist forecasts of 4.7-5.2%, align with this market-implied path while core components remain elevated. Upcoming August data and the central bank's next policy review represent key near-term catalysts that could sustain or moderate these odds.
