The closely contested nature of the Ostrava mayoral race stems from a fragmented field of local coalitions and parties ahead of the October 9–10 municipal elections, with no single grouping holding a clear path to majority control of the 55-seat assembly that selects the mayor. Incumbent Jan Dohnal leads the rebranded srdcOVA center-right slate (ODS, KDU-ČSL, TOP 09), while ANO fields Richard Vereš, and other contenders including Aleš Boháč (Starostové), Rostislav Řeha (Piráti), Lukáš Semerák (Ostravak), and Ivana Lucáková Nesétová (Naše Česko) draw support from distinct districts and voter bases. Recent coalition formations and candidate unveilings in June have reinforced balanced positioning without decisive shifts, as campaigns emphasize economic development, the Ostrava-Katowice metropolitan link, housing, and transport. Further separation could emerge from late polling, assembly negotiations, or turnout patterns among key local blocs.
