Elevated valuations, with forward P/E ratios around 20-22x amid 10-year Treasury yields near recent highs, reflect trader focus on whether earnings momentum can offset tighter financial conditions and persistent inflation pressures. Recent Federal Reserve communications and a September rate increase have reinforced expectations for a higher-for-longer policy path, while upcoming October data releases on employment, CPI, and the late-month FOMC meeting represent key near-term catalysts that could shift rate expectations and index direction through year-end.
