Recent softer U.S. inflation data, with July CPI at 3.4% year-over-year and core at 2.5%, has reduced market-implied odds of a near-term Federal Reserve rate hike under Chair Kevin Warsh, supporting gold prices near $4,400 per ounce as of August 17. Lower Treasury yields and a weaker dollar have reinforced the inverse relationship, while persistent geopolitical tensions in the Middle East sustain safe-haven demand. Gold's recovery from June lows near $4,000 follows a January peak above $5,600, with trader sentiment now focused on upcoming CPI releases and the September FOMC meeting that could shift rate path expectations and volatility in XAU/USD.
