Ozan Baris, a 22-year-old American and former Michigan State standout with strong ITA pedigree, enters the Cary Tennis Classic on outdoor hard courts after recent qualifying wins and selection for the ATP Next Gen Accelerator program. The right-hander brings recent momentum and familiarity with U.S. hard-court conditions against 27-year-old Australian Blake Ellis, whose career-high ranking of 270 reflects greater pro experience but who currently sits near the same 500 range. Their prior head-to-head favored Ellis in three sets, yet Baris’s improved consistency and the home-event setting shape trader consensus around the younger player’s edge in this Challenger round-of-32 matchup. Schedule rest, potential fatigue from the college-to-pro transition, and hard-court movement will influence outcomes more than long-term historical trends.
