In the Busan Challenger first-round matchup on outdoor hard courts, No. 110 Sho Shimabukuro faces No. 221 Ilia Simakin, whose head-to-head stands at 1-1, including Simakin's 7-5, 3-2 retirement win over Shimabukuro last October in the Suzhou Challenger on the same surface. Simakin arrives in strong form after reaching the Wuning Challenger quarterfinals last week, defeating Ostapenkov and Paris before falling to Kotov, while Shimabukuro has faltered recently with a 1-4 YTD hard-court record, including straight-sets losses to Honda in Yokkaichi and earlier main-draw exits at Indian Wells and Miami qualifying. No injuries are reported, leaving stylistic edges and fatigue from Simakin's recent travel as key variables in this evenly poised opener.
