In the Busan Challenger first-round matchup on outdoor hard courts, higher-ranked No. 112 Sho Shimabukuro faces resurgent No. 221 Ilia Simakin, who hold an even 1-1 head-to-head record with their most recent encounter ending in Simakin's favor via Shimabukuro's retirement at 7-5, 3-2 in last year's Suzhou Challenger. Simakin enters with strong 2026 momentum at 20-6 overall (18-5 on hard), highlighted by a Challenger title in Phan Thiet and a quarterfinal loss to Pavel Kotov in Wuning just last week. Shimabukuro, at 15-10 YTD (13-8 hard), has struggled recently with first-round exits in Yokkaichi to Naoya Honda and other early-season events, though his experience and career hard-court prowess (220-130) provide edges. No reported injuries; Simakin's 6'4" frame offers serve advantages in a closely contested affair.
