In the ATP Challenger Busan first-round clash on outdoor hard courts, higher-ranked No. 110 Sho Shimabukuro faces No. 219 Ilia Simakin in their third career meeting, split 1-1 on hard after Simakin's 7-5, 3-2 retirement win in last year's Suzhou Challenger. Simakin enters with superior 2026 form at 20-6 overall (18-5 hard), highlighted by a recent Phan Thiet 2 Challenger title and a Wuning quarterfinal loss on April 10, showcasing his powerful game from 6'4" frame. Shimabukuro (15-10 YTD, 13-8 hard) relies on experience and a San Diego semifinal run but must rebound from a March 24 Yokkaichi first-round defeat. No injuries reported; surface suits both, with Simakin's momentum potentially fueling an upset.
