Fiji and Vanuatu open Group 1 play in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup East Asia-Pacific Qualifier at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin, Japan, with the top two teams advancing to the Super Six stage and a pathway toward T20 World Cup 2026 qualification. Vanuatu, the more established side, departed Port Vila this week for the tournament but enters off a string of losses in last year's sub-regional, including a narrow 5-wicket defeat to Fiji on August 22, 2024—their most recent head-to-head—despite historically dominating with big wins like 36 and 102 runs. Fiji showed mixed form then, beating Cook Islands twice but losing to Samoa. No injuries or withdrawals reported; toss winner likely bats first on unknown pitch conditions amid mild May weather, with both sides prioritizing early momentum ahead of Japan clashes.
