Punjab Kings capitalized on momentum from their opening IPL 2026 win over Gujarat Titans by three wickets, showcasing explosive batting from Priyansh Arya and Shreyas Iyer, while Chennai Super Kings slumped to a second straight defeat after a poor start to the season. CSK's injury crisis—MS Dhoni sidelined with a calf issue for 2+ weeks, Dewald Brevis out with a side strain, and pacers Nathan Ellis (tournament-ending) and Spencer Johnson unavailable—severely weakened their death bowling and finishing, reflected in trader consensus favoring PBKS amid the even head-to-head record now tilted 17-16 their way. Chepauk's slow, gripping pitch aided spin but exposed CSK's vulnerabilities, with hot weather and potential dew boosting chasing sides like PBKS, who sealed a five-wicket chase of 210 with eight balls spare via Ayush Mhatre's half-century.
