The Las Vegas Raiders’ decision to name Kirk Cousins their Week 1 starter stems from his consistent edge throughout training camp and the preseason under first-year head coach Klint Kubiak. The veteran, signed in free agency on a short-term deal, outperformed rookie first-overall pick Fernando Mendoza in exhibition play, completing 13 of 17 passes for a touchdown with no interceptions while Mendoza posted a 25-for-45 line with two picks. Official depth-chart placement and multiple reports confirm Cousins will open the season, aligning with the organization’s plan to shield the rookie behind experienced leadership and an established offensive system. Aidan O’Connell remains a distant third option. An injury to Cousins before the opener against the Dolphins represents the primary scenario that could alter the outcome.

In the event two listed quarterbacks take the field on the first offensive play of the Las Vegas Raiders’ Week 1 game, this market will resolve in favor of the player directly receiving the snap. If neither listed quarterback directly receives the snap, this market will resolve in favor of the player whose listed last name comes first alphabetically.
If Week 1 of the 2026-27 NFL regular season is cancelled, postponed after September 30, 2026, 11:59 PM ET, or no official starter has taken the field within that timeframe, this market will resolve to “Other”.
The resolution source for this market will be official information from the NFL and/or the Las Vegas Raiders; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
