Recent cooling in U.S. inflation data, including softer-than-expected July producer prices and core CPI at its lowest since early 2021, has eased near-term Federal Reserve rate-hike expectations and supported equity gains. The S&P 500 reached record closes near 7,799 in mid-August before settling around 7,745 on August 17, reflecting a roughly 13-14% year-to-date advance amid resilient tech and AI-driven earnings. Traders are now focused on the July FOMC minutes due this week, alongside industrial production, unemployment claims, and retail earnings releases that could shift rate-path pricing and volatility. Treasury yields have retreated as market-implied odds of a September hike fell below 35%, underscoring the linkage between inflation trajectories, monetary policy signals, and near-term index levels.
