Trader consensus on Polymarket gives a 91.5% implied probability that Lionel Messi will feature in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, driven by his sustained fitness at Inter Miami—scoring in a March comeback win—and no retirement announcement despite turning 39. Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni confirmed last week the decision rests with Messi, who expressed to ESPN a strong desire to compete while emphasizing peak condition amid MLS's lower intensity. Recent emotional displays, like the March friendly rout at La Bombonera, fuel optimism for a swan-song campaign defending the 2022 title. Realistic upsets hinge on a major injury before June's kickoff or a last-minute fitness pullback, though his track record suggests resilience.
