Amazon's February 2026 earnings release established the key anchor for 2026 capital expenditure expectations with official guidance of approximately $200 billion, a more than 50% increase from the $131 billion spent in 2025 and well above prior analyst models around $146 billion. The bulk of the outlay targets AI infrastructure including data centers, custom silicon, and AWS capacity to meet surging demand for large language model training and inference. In the subsequent Q1 2026 report, quarterly capex reached roughly $43-44 billion with no revision to the full-year figure, while AWS revenue accelerated to 28% growth. Traders are monitoring whether sustained cloud demand, energy constraints, and utilization rates will keep spending on this elevated trajectory through year-end or prompt any mid-year adjustments ahead of Q2 results.
