Hugo Dellien, a Bolivian clay-court specialist ranked No. 133, faces higher-ranked No. 102 Jesper de Jong in the second round of qualifying at the Internazionali BNL d'Italia on outdoor clay in Rome. Both advanced from first-round qual wins yesterday—Dellien defeating Luca van Assche 6-2, 7-5, and de Jong edging Pedro Martinez 7-6(5), 7-5—showcasing solid form entering this evenly split 2-2 head-to-head rivalry, all on clay with de Jong taking the most recent in October 2024. Dellien rides momentum from a Santa Cruz Challenger clay title earlier in April, bolstering his baseline grinding style suited to the slow Foro Italico surface, while de Jong's 8-7 clay record this year reflects resilience despite a 10-14 overall mark. No reported injuries; mild Rome weather favors extended rallies.
