Andrey Rublev enters the National Bank Open second round as the clear favorite against Juncheng Shang on outdoor hard courts in Montreal, reflecting his superior ranking near No. 14-16 and stronger 2026 form with a 26-14 record. The 10th seed has maintained consistent results, including a Barcelona final appearance, while benefiting from a first-round bye. Shang, ranked No. 281 and using protected ranking, showed positive signs with a straight-sets first-round win but remains limited by a prolonged foot injury recovery from 2025 that dropped his standing sharply. Their lone prior meeting saw Rublev prevail in three sets during the 2024 Hong Kong semifinals. Traders appear to weigh Rublev’s experience, power baseline game, and recent match volume heavily against Shang’s need for further competitive rust removal in a high-level ATP 1000 setting.
