Canada’s debut as the first new participant since Australia in 2015 has emerged as the clearest near-term catalyst shaping trader sentiment, following CBC/Radio-Canada’s full EBU membership and official confirmation in July 2026. North Macedonia’s return after a four-year absence adds another variable, while the Netherlands’ second consecutive boycott over Israel’s participation highlights ongoing geopolitical tensions that have already prompted withdrawals from several broadcasters. With 22 countries provisionally confirmed and the application deadline set for mid-September 2026, attention now turns to potential additional returns from prior boycotters and the mid-October withdrawal grace period. The contest will take place in Burgas, Bulgaria, in May 2027 under updated EBU rules barring winners in armed conflict from hosting.
