Roy Lichtenstein’s market has shown robust momentum heading into the October 7 Sotheby’s Contemporary Curated sale, where “Green Head” is slated to appear as part of a major estate collection offering. Strong sell-through rates above 99 percent on recent estate lots, combined with average auction prices that have nearly doubled year-over-year, reflect sustained collector demand for Pop works. The timing—just days before the Whitney Museum’s major Lichtenstein survey opens on October 11—adds visibility and could support bidding, though estimates for many pieces in the curated sale range from $500,000 to $1.5 million. Traders are watching recent comparable results and any last-minute provenance or condition updates that might influence the final “lot sold” price in USD.
