Recent geopolitical disruptions, including tensions around the Strait of Hormuz and refinery constraints tied to conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine, have pushed Brent crude above $100 per barrel and driven the U.S. national average regular gasoline price to $4.44 per gallon as of September 17, 2026, up sharply from year-ago levels near $3.20. Regional spreads remain wide, with the lowest state averages (Indiana near $3.92 and Texas near $3.93) still well above the $3.75 threshold amid elevated refining margins and summer-blend requirements. Trader sentiment on state-level gas prices reflects these supply-side pressures and limited near-term relief from seasonal winter-blend transitions, while monitoring upcoming EIA inventory data and any shifts in global oil flows that could alter the current elevated price trajectory.
