Romania's ongoing political crisis, triggered by the May 2026 no-confidence vote that ousted Ilie Bolojan's pro-EU coalition government, continues to shape expectations around the next prime ministerial appointment. President Nicușor Dan holds constitutional authority to designate candidates after parliamentary consultations, yet repeated efforts—including the June nominations of Eugen Tomac and Adrian Veștea—have failed to secure the required majority support amid deep fragmentation across parties. Far-right opposition blocs and reluctance among moderates to revive prior coalitions have prolonged the deadlock, with Bolojan serving in a caretaker capacity. Traders monitor any renewed negotiations or fresh designations, as a minority government or cross-party deal remains among the more plausible paths to resolution before year-end.
