**American Express trades with a public market capitalization near $220 billion, supported by trailing twelve-month revenue exceeding $84 billion and consistent earnings growth, while Stripe’s most recent confirmed tender offer valued the private company at $159 billion with secondary indications ranging from $156 billion to $196 billion as of mid-September 2026.** This valuation gap underpins the 86.5% market-implied probability that Amex will hold the higher valuation on December 31. Stripe’s strong payment volume growth and recent multi-billion-dollar acquisition of OpenRouter signal expansion into AI infrastructure, yet its private status and absence of an imminent IPO limit near-term revaluation potential over the remaining three-plus months. Traders appear to view the short resolution horizon and Amex’s stable equity pricing as decisive, with any material shift in Stripe’s marks or broader market multiples representing the primary swing factors.
