Tsai Yi-yu secured the Democratic Progressive Party nomination for Chiayi County magistrate after a decisive January 2026 primary victory over local councilor Huang Jung-li, positioning the DPP legislator as the clear frontrunner in a county with longstanding party alignment. Trader consensus at 85.5% implied probability for Tsai reflects structural advantages including party machinery and incumbency patterns ahead of the November 28, 2026, vote, with candidate registration opening in late August. Opposition coordination produced limited movement when forces consolidated in July behind independent Puzi Mayor Wu Pin-jui at 9.5%, while minor contenders such as Tsai Sung-yi register negligible support. No late-breaking developments have altered these dynamics in recent weeks.
