Saint-Étienne hosts the first leg of the Ligue 1 promotion/relegation playoff at Stade Geoffroy-Guichard after advancing from the Ligue 2 playoffs, while Nice arrives on a five-match winless run following their Coupe de France final appearance and a poor finish to the top-flight campaign. Saint-Étienne benefits from greater rest and strong home form, though key midfield and defensive absences including Jaber, Tardieu, Eymard and El Jamali limit depth. Nice faces additional challenges from Elye Wahi’s suspension plus injuries to Bombito and Abdelmonem, creating a tight turnaround before the May 29 return leg in Nice. Historical head-to-head results favor Nice, but recent form, venue and squad availability shape the opening encounter.
